The National Association of Real Estate Editors recognized Real Estate Economy Watch as the second best web site of 2011 dedicated solely to real estate or home design coverage.
At its annual meeting in San Antonio last week, NAREE;s 61st annual journalism awards recognized outstanding journalists and publications in 23 categories ranging from best investigative report to best shelter magazine.
Shannon Behnken of the Tampa Tribune was honored with NAREE’s annual award for Best Overall Entry by an Individual. The best Freelance Collection Award went to Mary Umberger for her freelance contributions to the Chicago Tribune. The Ruth Ryon Best Entry by a Young Journalist honor went to Alyssa Abkowitz of SmartMoney Magazine. Among thiose cited in this years awards we Ken Harney, Washington Post Writers Group, best column and Mary Umberger, best freelancer.
“Graphically, this site may be more difficult than necessary to navigate, but it is rich and deep in current information, whether in features or short statistical reports. It is easy to read after you jump to the stories,” said the judges of REEW.
“We are to be recognized by our peers. During these critical times in real estate, we hope that REEW is helping professionals and consumers better understand the market forces that are so critical to our nation,” said Steve Cook, managing editor. Cook and his partner in Reecon Advisors, David Lereah, launched the site in 2009.
All award winners were selected by a panel of expert judges from the E. W. Scripps School of Journalism at Ohio University. Professor Patrick S. Washburn, a former news reporter and editor, chaired the panel of jurors. A record number of entries from professional journalists across the U.S. were received this year. Prizes, totaling $8,000, were awarded in 25 different categories.
